In the Shadow of the Lamp

In the Shadow of the Lamp
by Susanne Dunlap
Teen Historical Fiction
293 pages
New York : Bloomsbury Children's Books, 2011

Molly has suffered the loss of her parlormaid job at the hands of a jealous kitchen girl. With nowhere to go she tags along with a group of nurses headed by Miss Florence Nightingale as they travel to Turkey to aid British soldiers in the Crimean War. Molly is a natural to the nursing profession, but not such a natural when it comes to understanding love. A doctor and a soldier unknowingly are tugging her heart in different directions. It was so interesting to read and learn about such a fascinating person as Florence Nightingale. However, the star of this wonderful historical novel is definitely spunky young Molly.
